Home Spun (2011)

Story of the Making

As the title suggests, this exhibition is a spin on the idea of Home – as both, a place and a state of mind. This exhibition was curated by Girish Shahane, a prominent critic from Mumbai. It dramatizes the tension between longing and belonging. If absence and exile make the heart grow fonder, the familiarity of domesticity can breed contempt. The entire show had a selection of writings– from Rainer Maria Rilke to George Orwell – that the curator had been moved by. The exhibition had 3 sections. The first section focusing on a large scale, architectural forms. The second comprising of objects and images that twisted items of daily use. The third space echoing the Baroque Palaces of Europe, sharing its organizational principle with the Chawls of Bombay.
