Deeper Within its Silence (2019)

Story of the Making

As a homage to late Amol Vadehra, our young friend and art connoisseur, Devi Art Foundation took upon itself to renovate the ground floor of the Vadehra Furniture Factory at Okhla Industrial Area in Delhi, designed by the late artist / architect Satish Gujaral in the 1970s. In his memory, an exhibition titled Deeper Within its Silence was curated by artist Sumakshi Singh. The space provided a rustic and moody element to the exhibition. The exhibition explores perspectives of the metaphysical and spiritual, with works culled from the collection. Sumakshi employs her own interest in quantum physics and her practice of meditation to ask if the immaterial could possibly address the material, employing poetry, light, shadow, and object traces in an exploration into the energies that pulsate in unexplained space. Encompassing the mutable and the vibratory, a series of 26 artistic inquiries question and explore the appearance and understanding of form.

There were seven sections, each indicated by a word namely: In-formation, After-words, Rhythm, Interstices, Rupture, After life and Formlessness.

Highlights

– Deeper Within its Silence: Form and Unbecoming explores how ephemeral ‘non-things’—thought, idea, information, semantics, sound, vibration, light, space and movement relate to formation.

– This exhibition employs lyricism, light and shadow, and poetry to look toward substance and the insubstantial. Form is seen as solid, dissolving, imploded and exploded.

– This exhibition is a journey through questions of how the material may be used to address the immaterial, how the gross points to the subtle, how words dissolve into the abstraction of feeling and how circumference may become centre.
