Fracture: Indian Textiles, New Conversations (2015)
Story of the Making
A lot of work happening at Devi Art Foundation stems from our personal passions, Fracture is an example of one such show. Drawing from India’s rich handloom and textile tradition, Fracture aims to explore Textile as Art. Presenting specially commissioned works of a variety of designers, visual artists and a filmmaker (chosen after an initial call for proposals), the exhibition showcases more than 30 works created in collaboration with master craftspersons and artisans. Contemporary idioms are created using traditional techniques and rendered in the exhibition, showcasing the process of creation of a unique language of approaching and presenting textiles. Fracture is a collaboration, with textile historian Rahul Jain, critic Mayank Mansingh Kaul, and designer Sanjay Garg, exploring together India’s most prolific craft and starting a new conversation.
